Bard College: The Montgomery Place Campus to Host Free Exhibit on Tree Pests and Diseases, through October
 

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Through October, Bard College’s Montgomery Place Campus is hosting a seasonal exhibition focusing on some of the tree insects and diseases that are endangering trees across the Northeast. The interpretive exhibit, “Trees under Threat: Pests and Diseases that Endanger Our Trees Today,” explores signs and symptoms, early detection, and efforts underway to protect trees and promote tree conservation. Presented by the Landscape and Arboretum Program at Bard, the exhibit is free and open to the public. It will be on display in the Greenhouse Tool Room on the Montgomery Place Campus, which is open daily from sunrise to sunset. The Montgomery Place Campus includes gardens, an arboretum, and three miles of hiking trails with views of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains. Montgomery Place mansion tours take place Saturdays, through October 13, at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. Tours are $10 per person. Montgomery Place, a 380-acre estate adjacent to the main Bard College campus and overlooking the Hudson River, is a designated National Historic Landmark set amid rolling lawns, woodlands, and gardens, against the spectacular backdrop of the Catskill Mountains. Renowned architects, landscape designers, and horticulturists worked to create an elegant and inspiring country estate consisting of a mansion, farm, orchards, farmhouse, and other smaller buildings. The Montgomery Place estate was owned by members of the Livingston family from 1802 until the 1980s. In 1986, Livingston heir John Dennis Delafield transferred the estate to Historic Hudson Valley in whose hands it remained until 2016, when Bard acquired the property.(8/2/18)
