CONCERT TO FEATURE WORKS BY COMPOSER KYLE GANN WITH SOLOIST LOIS SVARD ON FEBRUARY 24 AT BARD COLLEGE.

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-Composer Kyle Gann, joined by pianist Lois Svard, will present several of his new works, including two world premieres, at Bard College on Wednesday, February 24. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall and is open to the public without charge.

The program will present seven recent works by Gann, including two premieres, "Despotic Waltz" and "The Waiting," both for disklavier; an electronic vocal work, "Custer and Sitting Bull" (premiering on February 22 in Los Angeles); "How Miraculous Things Happen"; "Arcana XVI: Homage to Joan Tower"; "So Many Little Dyings"; and "Desert Sonata," performed by Svard.

Gann is assistant professor of music at Bard College and new-music critic for The Village Voice. He notes influences on his own work from the music of Hopi, Zuni, and Pueblo Indians. His works have been performed at various festivals, including New Music America, Bang on a Can, and Spoleto. Internationally known as an authority on American music, Gann is the author of The Music of Conlon Nancarrow and American Music in the 20th Century.

Lois Svard has received enthusiastic acclaim internationally for her performances of contemporary piano music. Svard commissioned "Desert Sonata" from Gann and performed it on her 1997 recording, Other Places. She is on the faculty of Bucknell University and writes frequently about new piano music for Musical America, Keyboard, and Notes.
