EXHIBITION AT THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY IN RED HOOK HIGHLIGHTS WORKS OF M.F.A. STUDENTS AT BARD COLLEGE JULY 18 THROUGH JULY 30

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.- Graduate students from the Milton Avery Graduate School of
the Arts at Bard College will exhibit their Master's Project work at the Chocolate
Factory in Red Hook from Sunday, July 18, through Friday, July 30. The free opening
reception, to which the public is invited, is Sunday, July 18, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Painting, sculpture, and photography will be exhibited at the Chocolate Factory, while
screenings of films and videos and readings from novels and poetry, held in conjunction
with the exhibition, will take place at the Weis Cinema in the Bertelsmann Campus
Center's on the Bard campus.

The exhibition and programs culminate the work of the twenty-three graduate students,
who are in the third and final year of the M.F.A. program at Bard. The artists,
sculptors, photographers, cinematographers, and writers have spent intensive summer
sessions of eight weeks on the College campus for the past three years. During the
winter they continued their study through two independent study sessions. This system
allows students to earn an M.F.A. degree without sacrificing employment or other
commitments.

The M.F.A. candidates who will be exhibiting paintings are Nina Bovasso, Anthony
Goodwin, Renee Harshbarger, Robert Huff, Rosanna Otero-Stone, and David Procuniar.
Sculptors exhibiting are Jan Baracz, Zach Hadlock, Serkan Ozkaya, Amanda Wojick,
Christopher Willingham, and Mark Wonsidler. The photographers are Jean Casbarian, Mary
Kurtin, and Pete Mauney. Films and videos will be screened at the Weis Cinema in Bard's
Bertelsmann Campus Center on the following evenings at 7:00 p.m.: Tuesday, July 20,
Gang Zhao; Wednesday, July 21, Nida Sinnokrot; Tuesday, July 27, Jimi Corpuz; and
Wednesday, July 28, Meredith Holch. Writers and poets will read from their work, also
at the Bertelsmann Campus Center, at 7:00 p.m. on the following dates: Tuesday, July
20, Jason Ellrott; Wednesday, July 21, Christopher Tinney; Thursday, July 22, Mary
Roma; and Tuesday, July 27, Leola Abraham. 

The twenty-three M.F.A. candidates have been studying with the following faculty of the
Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts; composers David Behrman, Nicholas Maw, and
Richard Teitelbaum; filmmakers Peggy Ahwesh, Cecilia Dougherty, Peter Hutton, and
Yvonne Rainer; multidisciplinary artist Carolee Schneemann; painters Regina Granne,
Arturo Herrera, Suzanne Joelson, Amy Sillman, Robin Tewes, and Stephen Westfall;
photographers Mark Durant, Barbara Ess, Stephen Frailey, Charles Hagen, and Judy Linn;
sculptors Nayland Blake, Nancy Bowen, Kenji Fujita, Arthur Gibbons (director of the
M.F.A. program), and Nancy Shaver; writers Ann Lauterbach, Josip Novakovich, Leslie
Scalapino, Mathew Stadler, and Lynne Tillman; and critic Michael Brenson. 

The M.F.A. candidate exhibition at the Chocolate Factory will be on view from Sunday,
July 18 through Friday, July 30. Hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For further information
