PIANIST BARI MORT TO PERFORM AT BARD COLLEGE ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 23 Flutist Sato Moughalian and violist Nardo Poy join Mort in a performance of works by Handel, Beethoven, Ginastera, Tower, Zyman, and Duruflé
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Pianist Bari Mort will be joined by flutist Sato Moughalian and violist Nardo Poy on Wednesday, February 23, at 8:00 p.m. for an evening concert sponsored by the Bard Center. The concert, free and open to the public, will be held in Olin Hall at Bard College.
"The concert repertoire features music from the Baroque to the present," says pianist Bari Mort. "These works are not only from different times, but are in varied styles, with something for everyone, from classical sonatas to Argentinian dances, piano solos, and chamber music."
Works featured in the concert are Handel's Theme and Variations, "Harmonious Blacksmith"; Beethoven's Sonata in E major Op. 109; Ginastera's "Danzas Argentinas"; Joan Tower's "Holding a Daisy, " and "Or like an . . . engine"; Zyman's Sonata for Flute and Piano; and Duruflé's Prélude, Recitatif, et Variations, Op. 3, for flute, viola, and piano.

About the Artists:
Bari Mort,
pianist, is a Bard faculty member in the Music Program. She is a pianist who "uses her excellent musical instincts with taste and technical security," said Bernard Holland in the New York Times. She made her New York recital debut at Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, as the winner of the Artists International Young Musicians Auditions. Mort has performed many solo recitals and chamber music concerts in the United States and is a member of the New York Chamber Ensemble. She has appeared with the International String Quartet, Musica de Camera, and the Phoenix Chamber Players, among others, and has performed at many music festivals, including Bar Harbor, Belleayre, Cape May, Beethoven Music Festival, and Music at Caramoor. She has also appeared on PBS television's "Live from Lincoln Center" and on National Public Radio. She recently toured the American Southeast and Midwest for Columbia Artist's Community Concerts, and she has presented many collaborative programs at East Coast schools for the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts. Her recording of contemporary American music is on ERM Records and she appears as a chamber musician on two releases on Albany Records.Sato Moughalian
, flutist, appears as a recitalist, soloist, and orchestral musician in New York City. She has recently appeared as a soloist with Lincoln Center's Great Performers Bach Festival, as concerto soloist with the National Symphony of Ecuador, Orchestra of the San Pedro Theatre, Porto Allegre, Brazil, the Naumberg Orchestra, Hudson Chamber Symphony, and the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, among others. Her recording The Operatic Flute is on the MHS label. She frequently appears as a guest with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Dorian Quintet, and Sylvan Winds, among others, and is a member of the Quintet of the Americas. She is also artistic director of the Perspective Ensemble, in residence at Columbia University, which recently recorded Goddess of the Moon, chamber music of Charles Tomlinson Griffes on the Newport Classics label. Moughalian is also the solo flute of L'Opera Français de New York, the New Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey, and St. Patrick's Cathedral.Nardo Poy,
viola, has been a member of the world-renowned Orpheus Chamber Orchestra since 1978. He also appears with the Perspectives Ensemble, the Orchestra of St. Luke's, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He is the principal violist with the Bard Music Festival and the New York Symphonic Arts Orchestra. Poy has made over fifty recordings with Orpheus for Deutsche Grammophon and Nonesuch labels and has collaborated on a recording of chamber music with Dawn Upshaw. His other recordings include works by Dvorák with the Harmonie Ensemble, the Goddess of the Moon with the Perspectives Ensemble, a recording of a string quintet by Taneyev with other Bard Festival Players, and an album of music by Pizzola, which includes two works for viola and piano. He has been the artist-in-residence at SUNY Potsdam with the Carnegie String Quartet; violist with the Brodyhill Chamber Ensemble; principal viola with the Lake George Opera Festival, Santa Fe Opera, the Opera Company of Philadelphia, and the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra. He was a member and soloist with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia and has also appeared as soloist with the North Carolina Symphony, the Kansas City Camerata, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra throughout the United States, Europe, and Japan.# # #
