AN EVENING OF CHAMBER MUSIC AT BARD COLLEGE WILL FEATURE VIOLINIST MIA WU ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15 With guest artists clarinetist Sherry Apgar, cellist Margie Thomas, and pianists Elisha Gilgore and Bari Mort
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—An evening of chamber music presented by The Bard Center on Wednesday, March 15, will feature violinist Mia Wu, with guest artists clarinetist Sherry Apgar, cellist Margie Thomas, and pianists Elisha Gilgore and Bari Mort. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall and is free and open to the public.
The compositions to be performed are Bach's Suite No. 1 for viola solo; Gabriel Fauré's Sonata for violin and piano in A Major, Op. 13 and Richard Rodgers "The Carousel Waltz," both featuring Wu and Gilgore; Sergei Prokofiev's Sonata in D Major, Op. 94, for violin and piano with Wu and Mort; and Olivier Messiaen's Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps.

Violinist Mia Wu has received critical acclaim for her interpretations in a diverse and adventurous repertoire. "Her fingers are sure, her sound sweet and centered, her interpretations lively," the New York Times said of her playing. Wu teaches violin and viola at Bard College and is active in New York as a solo recitalist and chamber musician. She has appeared at Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, the Experimental Intermedia Foundation, and at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. She received the Paul Kochanski Prize for outstanding merit and was the winner of the concerto competition at The Juilliard School, where she received her doctorate. Wu also teaches at Princeton University and the Lawrenceville School.
Clarinetist Sherry Hartman Apgar is a member of the Chamber Symphony of Princeton, Bristol Riverside Theater Orchestra, and the Fame Trio. She is the operations manager for the Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra and has taught at various schools throughout New Jersey, including the Westminster Choir College.
Pianist Elisha Gilgore recently finished a series of CDs of the complete works of Soulima Stravinsky, son of Igor Stravinsky. She has been a chamber music partner for many of today's leading musicians and is member of the Fame Trio. With her husband, Donn-Alexandre Feder, she has concertized and recorded for Chandos Records. Gilgore is also the chairman of the Soulima and Francoise Stravinsky New Millenium International Competition and is on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music.
Pianist Bari Mort is a faculty member in the Music Program at Bard. She is a pianist who "uses her excellent musical instincts with taste and technical security," wrote Bernard Holland in the New York Times. She made her New York recital debut at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, as the winner of the Artists International Young Musicians Auditions. Mort has performed many solo recitals and chamber music concerts in the United States and is a member of the New York Chamber Ensemble. She has appeared with the International String Quartet, Musica de Camera, and the Phoenix Chamber Players, among others, and has performed at many music festivals, including Bar Harbor, Belleayre, Cape May, Beethoven Festival, and Music at Caramoor. She has also appeared on PBS television's Live from Lincoln Center and on National Public Radio. She recently toured the American Southeast and Midwest for Columbia Artists' Community Concerts, and she has presented many collaborative programs at East Coast schools for the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts. She performs as a soloist on a contemporary American music recording from ERM records and can be heard as a chamber musician on two releases from Albany records.
Cellist Margie Thomas is a founding member of the Fame Trio and served as director of student life for the Fame Festival. She is also the founder of Fabulous Affordable Music Enterprises, an agency that provides music for all occasions. Thomas performs as a soloist and chamber music recitalist and is a member of the New Jersey Pops Orchestra.
