"WORDS AND SILENCE," A POETRY PERFORMANCE BY CAROLINE BERGVALL, ON WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29, IS NEXT EVENT IN THE JOHN ASHBERY POETRY SERIES AT BARD COLLEGE

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY—The John Ashbery Poetry Series at Bard College continues with \"Words and Silence,\" a poetry performance by Caroline Bergvall, on Wednesday, November 29, at 7:00 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Bertelsmann Campus Center. Presented by The Bard Center with additional support from the Division of Languages and Literature and the Integrated Arts Program, the event is free and open to the public.

Caroline Bergvall, who lives and works in England, is a writer of cross-disciplinary and bilingual performances and is the director of performance writing (a program investigating emerging forms of writing, including cross-media works) at Dartington College of Arts, in Devon. Her writings have appeared in Raddle Moon, Angel Exhaust, Trois, Big Allis, PULP Faction, and Object Permanence and have been featured in such anthologies as Milk of Late, Out of Everywhere, Language Alive 2, and Conductors of Chaos. Bergvall has developed a number of installation and performance pieces in collaboration with visual and sound artists, and received the 1993 Live Art Award for her performance Strange Passage. Her recent work includes Éclat, a text installation for personal stereos, which was commissioned by the Institution of Rot in London and premiered in May 1996; it was subsequently remanipulated for publication by Sound and Language. Her current text project, Goan Atom, is an ongoing interdisciplinary series of events: Jets-Poupee, part one of the project, is published by Rempress. Ambient Fish, a \"nettext,\" was commissioned in 1999 as a sound text installation for the Root Festival at Hull Time Based Arts.
