PHOTOGRAPHER KEN JOSEPHSON WILL SPEAK AT BARD COLLEGE ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY—The Photography Program at Bard College will present a talk by Ken Josephson on Thursday, February 22, at 8:00 p.m. The discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Weis Cinema of the Bertelsmann Campus Center.
Josephson founded the photography program at the Art Institute of Chicago. During the 1960s and 70s he moved to the forefront of conceptual photography with works that played with perspective and scale. In all his work Josephson focuses on the act of picture making, offering playful commentary on photographic truth and illusion. His pictures within pictures are among his most memorable early works. Since then he has captured images of India\'s street life, a series of nudes, and large-format landscape photographs of Europe. In 1999, Josephson was the subject of a 35-year retrospective exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago. The monograph Kenneth Josephson: A Retrospective was published in conjunction with the exhibition.
On February 22, the day of his lecture at Bard, the Whitney Museum of American Art will present Ken Josephson: A Retrospective. This exhibition, the first New York retrospective of the 40-year career of this influential Chicago-based photographer, will be on view at the Whiney through May 27.
The next lecture in the series is a talk by photographer Les Krims on Thursday, April 19. For further information, call 845-758-6822.
