BENEFIT FOR INDIAN EARTHQUAKE RELIEF TO BE HELD AT SANTA FE RESTAURANT IN TIVOLI ON MONDAY, MARCH 26 Organized by Bard alumni/ae, professors, and students, the benefit will feature an Indian dinner, music, and dance

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY—Bard College alumni/ae, professors, and students have organized a public benefit for victims of the recent earthquake in India. The benefit, featuring an Indian dinner, music, and dance, will be held on Monday, March 26, at Santa Fe Restaurant in Tivoli, New York; the restaurant’s owner is Bard alumnus David Weiss ’86.

The benefit is the brainchild of alumnae Raissa St. Pierre ’87 and Jane Brien ’89 (together, a.k.a. the Clam Club). It grew out of their love of creating multimedia special events and their interest in India. They were inspired by a benefit luncheon held recently at Bard College and coordinated by Bard professor Gowri Parameswaran, which also sought to aid victims of the devastating January earthquake in Gujarat, India. All funds raised from the March 26 benefit will go to Sethu, a Gujarati nongovernmental organization that works with adivasi (tribal) communities and other marginalized sectors of Indian society. Sethu has helped to provide relief, shelter, and supplies to victims of the earthquake.

The buffet dinner, which begins at 7:00 p.m., will be prepared by Santa Fe along with members of the community and will feature traditional Indian dishes. During the dinner Indian music videos will be shown and DJ Padma Reichwald, host of the radio program Geet Mala on WVKR, will play Indian favorites. From 9:30 till midnight the entertainment will include a DJ spinning Indian dance mixes—film music, classical Indian songs, and Bhangra rock—and guest artists who will perform traditional Indian music and dances.

A donation of $20 is requested for the dinner; the price for students with ID. is $10. The donation for entertainment, after 10 p.m., is $10 ($5 for students with ID). For further information and for reservations, which are requested, call Raissa St. Pierre at 845-758-7410 or e-mail [email protected].
