JOHN ASHBERY POETRY SERIES CONTINUES AT BARD COLLEGE WITH READINGS BY CLAUDIA KEELAN AND CHRISTOPHER EDGAR ON FRIDAY, APRIL 20
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY-The John Ashbery Poetry Series at Bard College continues on Friday, April 20, with readings by Claudia Keelan and Christopher Edgar. This event, presented by The Bard Center, begins at 3:30 p.m. in Room 102 of the F. W. Olin Humanities Building, and is free and open to the public.
Claudia Keelan has published three prize-winning collections of poetry, including the recent Utopic, awarded the 2000 Beatrice Hawley Award; Refinery, which won the Cleveland State University Poetry Prize in 1994; and The Secularist, a winner in the 1997 Contemporary Poetry Series from the University of Georgia Press. Her poetry has been included in What Will Suffice: Contemporary Poets on the Ars Poetica and the 1997 Anthology of Magazine Verse & Yearbook of American Poetry. Her criticism was reprinted in the 1993 edition of Contemporary Authors. Keelan's honors include a 1990 Jesse Stuart Award for excellence in teaching; a 1991 fellowship from the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of New Mexico; a 1992 grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women; and a 1997 nomination for the Los Angeles Times Book Award for The Secularist.
Chris Edgar is publications director of Teachers and Writers Collaborative. His poems have appeared in The Germ, Shiny, Lincoln Center Theater Review, Sal Mimeo, The Portable Boog Reader, and Best American Poetry 2000. He was awarded the annual Boston Review poetry prize in 2000. Edgar is an editor of The Hat and a translator of Tolstoy as Teacher: Leo Tolstoy's Writings on Education.
The spring 2001 John Ashbery Poetry Series will conclude with a reading on Friday, April 27, at 3:30 p.m., with Robert Kelly, Asher B. Edelman Professor English at Bard, and Mei-mei Berssenbrugge reading from their recent works.
