ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-"WORD! Spoken Word Fest 2002"--featuring performance artists Scotland Zeif, K.T. Kilborn, Willie Perdomo, and Jessica Care Moore--will be held at Bard College on Saturday, March 9. The program is free and open to the public and begins at 7:00 p.m. in Olin Hall.
Jennifer Jimenez, Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Assistant Dean of Students at Bard College, says that "WORD!" combines entertainment and education as the performers share themselves and their experiences through the medium of spoken word.
Scotland Zeif
is a poet and musician who addresses modernity, homosexuality, and Judaism in his work. He is a regular performer at CBGB?s in New York City. Zeif received a bachelor's degree from Hampshire College and is working on his second CD before embarking on a national tour.K.T. Kilborn
, an up-and-coming performance artist, is a senior creative writing major at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Her writing and performance pieces focus on gender and sexuality. This will be her first stop on a Northeastern tour.Willie Perdomo
is one of the important voices to come out of the Nuyorican Poets Café. He is the author of Where a Nickel Costs a Dime and has been featured on several PBS documentaries including Words in Your Face and The United States of Poetry. He is a recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fiction Grant and he cowrote an episode for the HBO series, Spice City.Jessica Care Moore
has been called the "Nikki Giovanni/Maya Angelou of the hip hop generation" and is a journalist, television producer, teacher, and poet. Her poetry has been featured in Born to Sing Mama, a long-running musical at Madison Square Garden, as well as in the documentaries Underground Voices, SlamNation, and the feature film Slam, which won the 1998 Sundance Film Festival. Her work is well known in both mainstream and alternative publications throughout the United States.This program is presented by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Planning Committee, Asian American Student Organization, Black Student Organization, International Student Organization, Jewish Student Organization, Latin American Student Organization, Ladies? Misbehavior Club, Muslim Student Organization, and Queer Alliance at Bard College.
