THE INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED THEOLOGY PRESENTS THE CONFERENCE "CONFLICT RESOLUTION: A DIALOGUE AMONG CULTURES AND RELIGIONS" April 20-21 conference will be held at Union Theological Seminary in Manhattan

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-The Institute of Advanced Theology at Bard College, in collaboration with Global Publications of SUNY Binghamton, will present a two-day conference on Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21. The program, "Conflict Resolution: A Dialogue Among Cultures and Religions," will be held at Union Theological Seminary, 3041 Broadway at 121st Street in Manhattan. Cosponsors of the conference include the International Association of University Presidents and Brigham Young University.

The aim of this conference is to provide a forum for scholars-in dialogue with diplomats from the United Nations and foreign consulates-to investigate the theoretical foundations of conflict resolution within major world cultures and religions. Among the diplomats scheduled to appear are: the ambassadors of Afghanistan and Ghana to the United Nations, the permanent observer of the Organization of the Islamic Conference to the United Nations, the ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the United States, and discussants from the Egyptian, Guatemalan, Iranian, and Tajikistani UN missions and consulates.

Some of the panel topics include: "Conflict Resolution and Democratic Institutions," "Islam's Approach to Conflict Resolution," "The International Association of University Presidents and the UN Commission on Disarmament Education, Conflict Resolution and Peace," "Christian Visions and Tactics of Peace," "Conflict Resolution in the Balkans," "Meta-History of Conflict Resolution and Dialogue," "Perspectives on Conflict Resolution in Africa," "Tibetan Buddhist Philosophy and Conflict Resolution," and "Conflict Resolution in the Monotheistic Religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam: Keeping the Peace Among the Faithful." A collection of essays, based on papers from the conference, will be published as part of the Comparison series of books by Global Publications and the Institute of Advanced Theology.

A complete program of the conference is available at www.globalpublicationspress.com. The conference fee is $50 or $40 for members of the Institute of Advanced Theology (including lunch on both Saturday and Sunday, and dinner Saturday evening). Preregistration and prepayment are required. For reservations and further information, call the Institute office at 845-758-7279, e-mail [email protected], or visit the website www.bard.edu/iat.
