BREAD AND PUPPET THEATER WILL PERFORM AT BARD ON FEBRUARY 24

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The internationally renowned Bread and Puppet Theater will perform Imminent Attack at Bard College on Tuesday, February 24. The performance, presented by the Surrealist Training Circus (a Bard student organization), begins at 8:00 p.m. in Bard’s Old Gym. Admission is free; however, donations are welcome to support Bread and Puppet.

Imminent Attack is described as "a full-spectrum domination dumbshow," drawing from Shakespeare's Hamlet: "They are capable of nothing but inexplicable dumbshows and noise." Characters include God, Mother Earth, the Founding Fathers, Full-Spectrum Domination Executives, and the rest of the world.

Bread and Puppet Theater, one of the oldest, nonprofit, self-supporting theater companies in the United States, was founded in 1963 on New York City's Lower East Side by Peter Schumann. Bread and Puppet performs massive spectacles in the U.S., Europe, and Latin America, with theme-oriented pageants that address social, political, and environmental issues, or simply the common urgencies of life. Peter Schumann and Bread and Puppet have received the Obie Award, Vermont Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts, and Puppeteers of America Award, among others. Since 1970, Bread and Puppet has been based in Vermont, as theater in residence at Goddard College.
