BARD EXHIBITION FEATURES HUDSON VALLEY ARTISTS BARBARA BASH, KRISTIN BERTHOT, AND ROGER JONES

Transience, Contours of Anatomy as Metaphor will be on view from March 7–25 at the Bertelsmann Campus Center ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.--Three Hudson Valley artists—Barbara Bash, Kristin Berthot, and Roger Jones—are featured in the exhibition Transience, Contours of Anatomy as Metaphor, on view at Bard College’s Bertelsmann Campus Center from Monday, March 7, through Friday, March 25. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. There will be an opening reception on Tuesday, March 8, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. All events are free and open to the public. Bash, Berthot, and Jones all employ imagery that reflects life’s impermanence. Beyond the universal subject of transience, the finished pieces by each artist vary from abstraction to narrative figuration to literal illustration. These artists share a similar sensibility in their philosophical interests, yet they create work that is visually quite dissimilar. A common thread is their use of the contours of anatomy as a formal device—the bones of animals by Berthot, the hollow reeds by Bash, and the cross section of the human body by Jones. This offers the viewer a collective unconscious vision that is ultimately rendered uniquely and distinctly by each artist. The mediums of charcoal, graphite, pastel, watercolor, and acrylic are masterfully used by the three artists to address the eternal themes of life, death, and transmigration. Barbara Bash, Kristin Berthot, and Roger Jones are mid-career artists who have exhibited nationally, including in New York City and the Hudson Valley. They all live and work in Marbletown, New York.
