THE MILTON AVERY GRADUATE SCHOOL OF THE ARTS AT BARD COLLEGE ORGANIZES ANNUAL THESIS EXHIBITION AND PRESENTATIONS, JULY 10–21

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College presents the 2005 thesis exhibition—curated by William Heath, a graduate student in Bard’s Center for Curatorial Studies program—on view from July 10 to 21 at the UBS/Bard College Exhibition Center at 7401 South Broadway in Red Hook, NY. There also will be presentations by MFA candidates at Bard College in the evenings from July 11 to 15. Detailed information is available at www.bard.edu/mfa/events/. Both the exhibition and presentations are free and open to the public. The opening reception is Sunday, July 10, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.; gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Shuttle service is available on July 10 from the Amtrak station in Rhinecliff to the exhibition in Red Hook for trains arriving at 1:22 p.m. The shuttle will return from Red Hook to Rhinecliff for the 6:01 p.m. train to New York City. Artists included in the exhibition are Jaime Fennelly, Stefany Anne Golberg, Georgina Lewis, and Seth Nehil (music/sound); Munro Galloway, Philip Miner, Patrick Palermo, Mary Weatherford, and Annette Wehrhahn (painting); Marina Berio and Laurie Sermos (photography); Margaret Duguid, Helki Frantzen, Elisa Lendvay, Ezra Parzybok, and Josephine Pergola (sculpture). The presentations by MFA candidates at Bard College will begin at 7:00 p.m., from July 11 to 15: Monday, July 11, in the theater of the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Center for Film, Electronic Arts, and Music: Kelly Egan and Irene Lustig (film/video); Tuesday, July 12, in the theater of the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Center for Film, Electronic Arts, and Music: Adam Reed (writing) and Joshua Thorson (film/video); Wednesday, July 13, in the multipurpose room of the Bertelsmann Campus Center, Cynthia Nelson (writing) and Woody Sullender (music/sound); Thursday, July 14, in various locations on the Bard campus grounds, Bethany Wright (writing); and on Friday, July 15, in the multipurpose room of the Bertelsmann Campus Center, Yasmine Alwan and Renee Evans (writing). The students in the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts have spent three intensive summers in residence at Bard, where they have worked with faculty who are leading artists in their respective fields of painting, writing, photography, sculpture, film/video, and music. During the winter months, the students continued to work on independent projects related to their field of study. The MFA Program at Bard College is the only terminal-degree studio program that offers students the opportunity to receive cross-disciplinary feedback about their work, receiving a broader and deeper response from a community of artists, rather than the departmental approach that traditional MFA programs favor. All events are free and open to the public. For further information, contact [email protected] or call 845-758-7483. # # # (6/6/05)
