BARD COLLEGE TO HOST LECTURE ON JAPANESE WOMEN ARTISTS ON, FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—On Friday, October 14, art historian Midori Yoshimoto will present a lecture at Bard College on Japanese women artists in New York. Her talk, “Into Performance: Japanese Women Artists in New York, 1955-75,” which is also the title of her recently published book by Rutgers Press, looks at Japanese women performance artists in the 1960s and 1970s, including Yayoi Kusama and Yoko Ono. The talk takes place at 5 p.m. in room 102 of the Olin Humanities Building. The talk is presented by the Art History Program, Bard in China, and the Gender Studies Program, with support from the Freeman Undergraduate Asian Studies Initiative. Yoshimoto is an assistant professor of art history at New Jersey City University, Jersey City, where she is also the director of the art gallery. She holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in art history from Rutgers University and a B.A. in art history from Osaka University in Japan. She is a lecturer at the Museum of Modern Art and has taught at Rider University in New Jersey and Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. She has published numerous articles and delivered lectures across the United States on the topic of Japanese women artists in New York and America.
