“MUSIC CONSERVATORY OR COLLEGE? WHAT ABOUT BOTH?” A PANEL DISCUSSION AT GREENWICH HOUSE MUSIC SCHOOL ON NOVEMBER 11

Free chamber music program on November 16 offered by students of the Bard College Conservatory of Music ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—An open house for high school students and their parents—featuring the panel discussion “Music Conservatory or College? What about both?”—will be held at the Greenwich House Music School, 46 Barrow Street, New York City, on Friday, November 11, at 6:00 p.m. The panelists include: · Robert Martin, director of the Bard College Conservatory of Music, vice president for academic affairs at Bard College, and artistic codirector of the Bard Music Festival. A graduate of The Curtis Institute and Haverford College, Martin received a Ph.D. in philosophy from Yale University. He was cellist of the Sequoia String Quartet from 1975–85. · Melvin Chen, associate director of the Bard College Conservatory of Music, who is a graduate of Yale College (physics and chemistry), The Juilliard School (M.M. in piano and violin), and Harvard University (Ph.D. chemistry). Chen performs regularly in recital and with orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the world. · Weigang Li, founding first violinist of the Shanghai String Quartet, which has performed to critical acclaim throughout the world. He is on the faculty of the Bard Conservatory. · Susan Wadsworth, director and founder of Young Concert Artists, which has nurtured the careers of such artists as Richard Goode, Ani Kavafian, Ida Kavafian, Dawn Upshaw, Murray Perahia, Emanuel Ax, and countless others. · Bard Conservatory student Wui Ming Gan. On Wednesday, November 16, at 8:00 p.m., students of the Bard College Conservatory of Music will perform a chamber music concert at Greenwich House’s Renee Weiler Concert Hall.
