BARD MUSIC PROGRAM OFFERS SIX CONCERTS IN MAY

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Music Program at Bard College will offer six concerts in May. For further information, call 845-758-7250 (except as noted below). On Tuesday, May 2, there will be a free performance by the Bard College Electro-Acoustic Ensemble, directed by Mary Ann Amacher. This program begins at 10:30 p.m. in room N211, of New Blum in the Center for Film, Electronic Arts, and Music in the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Center. On Wednesday, May 3, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall, the Bard College Community Chorus and Chamber Singers, directed by James Bagwell, associate professor of music at Bard, perform works by Bach, Brahms, Haydn, and Mendelssohn. Featured guest artist is pianist James Fitzwilliam. On Friday, May 5, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall, the Bard College Chamber Singers, directed by Maestro Bagwell, perform works by Claudio Monteverdi. On Monday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in room N211 of New Blum, Thurman Barker leads the Bard College Jazz Big Band. On Tuesday, May 9, at 8:00 p.m. in the Sosnoff Theater of the Fisher Center, Mark Mandarano conducts the Bard College Orchestra in a performance of Bach’s “Sheep May Safely Graze”; Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5 in A Major (first movement) with soloist Sophia Mak, his Piano Concerto No. 12 in A Major (first movement) with soloist Terence Boyer, and his Symphony No. 40 in G Minor; and Gounod’s “The Jewel Song” from Faust with vocal soloist Clair Weber. Admission is $5; free for children 12 and under and the Bard community. Reservations are suggested; call the Box Office at 845-758-7900. On Wednesday, May 10, the Da Capo Chamber Players present an evening of new compositions and orchestrations by Bard student composers. The free program—coordinated by Joan Tower, Asher B.
