THE BARD CENTER’S FALL 2006 CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS VIOLINIST LAURA HAMILTON WITH PIANIST WARREN JONES ON OCTOBER 5

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Bard Center Concerts presents the first in fall 2006 series of free chamber programs on Thursday, October 5, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall. Violinist Laura Hamilton is joined by pianist Warren Jones in a program that includes Beethoven’s Sonata in C Minor, Op. 30, No. 2; Hindemith’s Sonata for Solo Violin, Op. 31, No. 2; Richard Strauss’s Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 18; and Wieniawski’s Fantaisie brillante, on themes from Gounod’s Faust, Op. 20. (This program is repeated at Carnegie Hall on October 7.) Laura Hamilton is the principal associate concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Previously a member of the Chicago Symphony, she appeared with that orchestra as concerto soloist with Sir Georg Solti at the podium. The California native trained at the Moscow Conservatory of Music with Oleh Krysa, and with Raphael Bronstein and Burton Kaplan at Manhattan School of Music, where she received the Nathan Milstein Scholarship. Hamilton has performed in the Marlboro, Tanglewood, Manchester, and Bard Music Festivals, summer festivals in Norway and Greece, and the Met Chamber Ensemble series at Carnegie Hall with James Levine and colleagues. Recently she served as guest concertmaster with the American Symphony Orchestra in Bard SummerScape’s production of Genoveva. Pianist Warren Jones has been a guest artist at major concert venues throughout North and South America, Europe, and Asia, appearing in recital and chamber music performances with leading vocal and instrumental artists, including Stephanie Blythe, Denyce Graves, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Samuel Ramey, and the Juilliard, Brentano, and Borromeo string quartets. He enjoys a broad and varied career as performer, recording artist, teacher, and jurist; and has recently become affiliated as principal pianist with the chamber group Camerata Pacifica. He is a faculty member at Manhattan School of Music and the Music Academy of the West. The Bard Center Concerts continue in Olin Hall on Wednesday, October 11, at 8:00 p.m., with the Da Capo Chamber Players performing several works by Grawemeyer Award–winning composer Chinary Ung. The Capital Trio performs a concert for children, “What’s Your Era? A ‘Hitchhiker’s Guide’ to Western Music” on Sunday, October 29, at 3:00 p.m., presented in cooperation with the Hudson Valley Chamber Music Circle. The fall season concludes with a program by the Colorado Quartet on Sunday, November 5, at 3:00 p.m. All programs are free and open to the public.
