Bard College Music Program Presents Five Concerts During the Holiday Season

Programs Feature Da Capo Chamber Players on November 30; Choral Concert on December 6; Orchestra on December 12; Jazz Big Band on December 18; and Electro-Acoustic Ensemble on December 19 ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON—The Bard Music Program offers five concerts during November and December. For more information call 845-758-7250. All programs are free and open to the public; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis (unless otherwise noted below). On Thursday, November 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Bard Hall, the Da Capo Chamber Players present an evening of new compositions and orchestrations by Bard students. This program is coordinated by Patricia Spencer, visiting associate professor of music. On Wednesday, December 6, at 8:00 p.m. in The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Sosnoff Theater, the Bard College Choral Concert features a symphonic chorus, chamber singers, and soloists. Conducted by Sharon Bjorndal, visiting instructor of music, this program includes selections from A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, “The Peaceable Kingdom” by Randall Thompson, and “Lauda per la Nativita del Signore” by Ottorino Respighi. Admission for this concert is $5 (free for Bard students and children 12 and under). For tickets, call 845-758-7900. Please note that the Bard College Orchestra (under the direction of Luis Garcia-Renart) will perform as originally scheduled on Tuesday, December 12, at 8:00 p.m. in Olin Hall, featuring guest conductor Nathan Madsen, an MFA graduate of Bard's Conductors Institute. The concert features performances of Vivaldi's Sinfonia in B Minor, RV 169; Hindemith's Five Pieces for String Orchestra, Op. 44, No. 4; and Tchaikovsky's Serenade for String Orchestra, Op. 48. On Monday, December 18, at 7:30 p.m. in room N211 of the Edith C. Blum Institute at the Milton and Sally Avery Arts Center, Thurman Barker, associate professor of music, conducts the Bard College Jazz Big Band Concert. On Tuesday, December 19, at 8:00 p.m. in Bard Hall, Richard Teitelbaum, professor of music, directs the Bard College Electro-Acoustic Ensemble in concert. ###
