Improv Dance and Music Peroformance by Amii Legendre and Elijah Tucker with Friends on February 10

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard College Student Activities presents a performance, The 6-Hour Play, by choreographer Amii LeGendre and composer/musician Elijah Tucker with friends on Saturday, February 10. Free and open to the public, the contemporary dance and music improvisation marathon is held from 6:00 p.m. to 12 midnight in the multipurpose room of the Bertelsmann Campus Center. The evening brings together some of the area’s most talented improvisation artists, some of whom have worked together for several years, others meeting for the first time on stage. Local music luminaries from the Bard community and beyond, including many recent Bard graduates and a host of Hudson Valley’s experimental dance artists will perform. “The 6 Hour Play is special as it invites audience members to come and go as they please, and allows their watching of and engagement in the performance to both alter the work and infuse it with new ideas,” explains LeGendre. The audience also can participate, through scored responses and a short open score, during certain points in the evening, which include a section scored for small children. However, most of the evening consists of shifting improvisations by the group of more than 10 professional performers. “The work exists to challenge exhaustion and to invite the imaginative space that occurs when one is physically and mentally exhausted,” LeGendre continues. “Exhaustion can strip self-consciousness, as well as the need to find form or content through habitual responses of the ego. It is the discomfort of the new that this evening seeks to explore.” LeGendre and Tucker and members of the 6 Hour performance are also working on another program (working title Elsewhere) to premiere in early May in Tivoli at the Milagros building. LeGendre is an independent dancer, teacher, and choreographer who relocated to the Hudson Valley last year, after 15 years working primarily with her contemporary dance company in Seattle. She performs and teaches nationally and internationally. Tucker lives in Brooklyn. He performs on several instruments in a number of bands and works with an internationally recognized Kirtan teacher.
