Award-Winning Novelist and Short Story Writer Joanna Scott to Give Reading on February 26

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AWARD-WINNING NOVELIST AND SHORT STORY WRITER JOANNA SCOTT TO GIVE READING AT BARD COLLEGE FEBRUARY 26 ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— Renowned novelist and short story writer Joanna Scott will read from her work at Bard College on Monday, February 26. Scott is the Roswell S. Burrows Professor of English at the University of Rochester. “Joanna Scott is one of the most original and enchanting voices in modern fiction,” says Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Olen Butler. Her books include Tourmaline, Everybody Loves Somebody, Various Antidotes, and Liberation, among other works. She will be introduced by novelist and Bard literature professor Bradford Morrow. The reading, which is being presented as part of Morrow’s course on innovative contemporary fiction, is free and open to the public and takes place at 2:30 p.m. in Weis Cinema in Bertelsmann Campus Center. Liberation won the Ambassador Book Award; Tourmaline was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award in the fiction category. Scott’s other novels are The Manikin, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1997; Arrogance, which received the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award, the Lillian Fairchild Award, and a nomination for the PEN/Faulkner Award; Make Believe; The Closest Possible Union; and Fading, My Parmacheene Belle. A collection of short stories, Various Antidotes, was also a PEN/Faulkner Award nominee. Scott is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, a Guggenheim fellowship, and the Lannan Literary Award for Fiction. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
