Concert by Tan Dun and The Orchestra Now Reviewed in the Millbrook Independent
On April 18, Grammy and Academy Award–winning composer and conductor Tan Dun made his fourth appearance with The Orchestra Now (TŌN) in a performance reviewed by the Millbrook Independent. “Tan Dun has the rare ability to meld East with West and to conduct with ecstatic energy,” writes Kevin McEneaney. “The audience rose in unison to applaud for over 10 minutes of frantic, ecstatic clapping, the longest applause that I have ever experienced!” The program included Debussy’s dreamy Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Ravel’s second suite of music from his pastoral ballet Daphnis and Chloé, as well as two works by the Tan Dun, his expressive 2014 piece Ten Thousand Galloping Horses and the Concerto for 12 Cellos and Orchestra.
