Mellon Professor of Cultural Heritage Science at the Bard Graduate Center, has put Edvard Munch’s 1910 version of The Scream under the microscope to examine how its colors have faded, providing lessons about other paintings of the period—a moment when many artists were abandoning traditional painting techniques and experimenting with various paints and color theories.
