Join us for a panel discussion with local government, nonprofit, and community leaders on how New York organizations are building sustainable communities. As governments institute policies to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and businesses continue to incorporate sustainability into their core missions and operations, the top-down approach to sustainable living is receiving much attention. However, local communities have not been consistently utilized to a large enough scale in creating a more sustainable future. Just as many businesses have come to realize that sustainability is simply better business, incorporating sustainability into community development creates a higher quality of life, with more economic and environmental security.
Panelists Include:
Lucille Songhai
Community Affairs Director, Manhattan Borough President’s Office
John Henry
Chairman, Cofound Harlem
Jaime Stein
Academic Coordinator + Faculty, MS in Sustainable Environmental Systems , Pratt Institute
Tony Hillery
Executive Director, Harlem Grown
This panel will examine:
- How can communities incorporate sustainability into all areas of their own development?
- What role does government and business leadership have in helping them achieve their goals?
- How do we create sustainable communities regardless of perceived geographic, socioeconomic or cultural constraints?
