Karen T. Raizen is an Assistant Professor of Italian and Music. Her research focuses mainly on European theater and opera of the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries. Her first monograph, Pulcinella’s Brood: Popular Culture in the Enlightenment, follows the strange afterlife of the commedia dell’arte clown Pulcinella during the Enlightenment. She also edited a volume, together with Luca Peretti, titled Pier Paolo Pasolini, Framed and Unframed: A Thinker for the Twenty-First Century. She has published articles in journals such as I Tatti Studies, Modern Language Notes, and Musical Quarterly. A former violist, she continues to think about music and integrate her musical training into both her scholarship and teaching. She is also an editor and translator.
