Research topics include the art and biography of Vladimir Nabokov; poetics of translation; Soviet and Post-Soviet literary institutions; ideological paradigms of political, media, and literary discourses of the Cold War; relationship between rhetoric of power and the language of literature in totalitarian societies; Soviet and post-Soviet children’s literature. Translator, editor, with Brian Boyd, Letters to Vera (Penguin, 2014; Knopf, 2015). Director, Information Resource Center, U.S. Consulate General, St. Petersburg, Russia (2001–04); deputy director, St. Petersburg Nabokov Museum (1998–2001). At Bard since 2010.
