Biography:
Mary McLaughlin is an American Sign Language (ASL) instructor who has taught at Mount Saint Mary College, Vassar College, SUNY New Paltz, Dutchess Community College, and Ulster County BOCES. McLaughlin has more than 20 years of experience in teaching both deaf and speaking students at a variety of levels. At Bard she is teaching Beginning American Sign Language, an immersion course that adheres to the Functional-Notional Approach to second-language acquisition, an approach that focuses on the communicative needs of people engaged in everyday interactions.BS, Marist College; additional studies at Dutchess Community College and Northwestern Connecticut Community Technical College.
