Biography:
Critic, essayist, and translator. Studied literature at University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, and University of Paris. Contributing writer, New York Times Magazine; contributing editor, Harper's Magazine; has written for the New York Review of Books, The Nation, New Republic, London Review of Books, New York Times Book Review, Slate, and the New Yorker. Translator, Rimbaud Complete: The Poetry and Prose of Arthur Rimbaud; and I Promise to be Good: The Letters of Arthur Rimbaud (Modern Library Classics). Fellow, Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library (2003–04). Recipient, National Book Critics Circle "Nona Balakian Citation" (2005); National Magazine Award (2006).
