As the Story Goes: Jewish Oral Tradition and Weapons of the Weak

What happens when we try to convey a century-old collection of oral anecdotes about notable Jewish men of Eastern Europe? What negotiations are involved in translating both language and culture? What can these stories tell us about how they both resisted and engaged pressured assimilation, modernization, and internal colonialism? This talk will address these questions.
