Discussion About Simply Human: A Guide to Understanding and Combating Hate, A New Book from BCSH

Please join the Bard Center for the Study of Hate (BCSH) for a discussion of some of the insights from their new book Simply Human: A Guide to Understanding and Combating Hate. The University of Toronto Press, which published this volume, describes it aptly:

Leading global hate studies experts join forces, guiding us to a better understanding of human hatred, what works to confront it, what doesn’t, and why. . . . [T]his book will change the way you think about how hate affects our lives and our politics. It’s “simply human” that we are too often pulled into the seductive comfort of “us versus them” thinking. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do better as individuals and societies. Simply Human will challenge readers look to at the world in a new light, take action against hate, and put meaning behind their words.

The webinar will be a discussion with contributors Thomas Brudholm, one of the world’s leading philosophers about hate, Joseph Levin, Jr., co-founder the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Irit Houvras, who wrote the final chapter “Considerations for Evaluation: Center Learning,” on how institutions fighting hate can use the principles from this book to increase the likelihood that their work against hate will be successful. A checklist from Irit’s chapter is freely available here. It is a useful tool for NGOs and philanthropies in the anti-hate space, and those who support such efforts.
