Black gay and bisexual men are at the intersection of the two leading causes of death in South Africa -- HIV and violence, thus it is important to understand sexual violence experienced by these men and its implications for sexual risk taking behaviors. This presentation reports the results of two quantitative and qualitative studies investigating sexual violence as experienced by black gay and bisexual men living in South African Townships, addressing the social contexts in which sexual violence often takes place as well as its impact on mental health and HIV infection risk.
