Exhale to Inhale empowers survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault to transform their lives using trauma-informed yoga.
Approximately 70% of adults in the United States have experienced a traumatic event at least once in their lives, and roughly 20% of these people go on to develop post traumatic stress disorder or PTSD. This short, two-hour online workshop will cover how yoga supports recovery and resiliency from trauma symptoms including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. It will include how self care and vicarious trauma can affect those who support survivors. During the workshop, participants will be able to embody a trauma-informed yoga practice underscoring its simplicity and benefits when used consistently over a period of time. Through the workshop, participants will be introduced to the science of trauma, and its neurological and physiological implications. Participants will be able to recognize the symptoms of trauma and learn tools for regulating the nervous system. This session will also explore how one might discharge and process trauma through the yoga practice. Participants will have space to explore trauma-informed principles, language, how to incorporate in shapes, breathing, and meditation techniques into their daily practice.
