New York State Primary

Center for Civic Engagement and Election @ Bard Present

New York State Primary

Thursday, September 13, 2018
On Thursday, September 13 a New York State Primary Election will be held. This means that eligible New York State voters can select party candidates for the coming November election. Party candidates for this year include Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General along with a few NYS judges.

Students are eligible to vote locally if they:
  • are registered members of the Democratic Party, the Independence Party, the Women’s Equality’s Party, or the Reform Party, and....
  • are registered in Dutchess County, and...
  • have registered to vote in Dutchess County before the primary's deadline. (August 19 for mail-in and in-person registrations, and August 24 for changes of address).
Here you will find a list of candidates that will be on the ballot. Ballotpedia is a great source for finding information about candidates. You can also find printouts of candidates information at the Kline Bus Stop, where volunteers will be tabling all day during the Primary.

Polls are open from 6 am to 9 pm in Dutchess County. Use this tool to find your polling place (students registered in Tivoli and Red Hook will have different polling places than those registered at Bard's address).

Shuttles to Bard's polling place (St. John's Episcopal Church) will leave from the Kline Southbound Bus Stop at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm, 5 pm, and 7 pm. There will be a shuttle on call for special circumstances, as well as for overflow.

You can check if you are registered to vote here.  However, if you are finding no results and believe that you have registered to vote locally in time for the primary, we encourage you to still go to the polls, as administrative errors such as name misspelling or wrong dates of birth are common since forms are filled out by hand.
