A talk by Tracy Trevorrow, Chaminade University
This presentation will review why we sleep and the roles sleep plays in college students' health, well-being, and cognitive performance. The quantity, quality, and timing of college students' sleep are consistently below healthy standards. Subgroups of students are at particular risk for inadequate sleep. This talk will consider risk factors for poor sleep such as gender, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, substance use, and sports participation. Strategies for getting better sleep will be reviewed and participants are encouraged to discuss their particular sleep experiences. The speaker will share sleep studies and lessons learned from 12 years of assessing college students in a small undergraduate population in Honolulu, Hawaii. For more information, call 845-758-6822, or e-mail [email protected].
