Artist in Residence Kelly Reichardt Interviewed in Vogue and Slant
S. William Senfeld Artist in Residence Kelly Reichardt was profiled in several magazines for the release of her newest film The Mastermind, which co-stars Gaby Hoffmann ’04. It follows J.B. Mooney (played by Josh O’Connor) after he commits an art heist in 1970s Massachusetts. As his plans fray, “Mooney’s increasing distance from his community mirrors the trajectory of a nation into disillusionment and disarray,” writes Marshall Shaffer for Slant. Describing the film as an “undoing story,” Reichardt says, “[like] with teaching, I approach talking about film [through] just breaking stuff down. How things are put together and how they fall apart is interesting.”
Reichardt has taught in Bard’s film program since 2006, and her 2019 movie First Cow was screened at the 2019 New York Film Festival. The Mastermind, which the Guardian called an “engrossingly downbeat heist movie,” released theatrically to positive reviews in October.
