Bard College Berlin Admits Eight Students Barred From the US
This fall, Bard College Berlin admitted eight students who had been accepted to prestigious universities before being barred from entering the United States due to travel bans enacted by the administration. All of these students received Davis Scholarships, a program that provides need-based financial aid to graduates of United World Colleges around the world, before the bans were enacted. Bard College Berlin offered these students the opportunity to enroll to pursue coursework and earn transfer credits.
These acceptances are an extension of the Begin in Berlin program, a first-year study abroad program for Bard Annandale students, and are part of Bard College Berlin’s mission to enable their students to pursue rigorous education. Professor Dorothea von Hantelmann, acting dean of Bard College Berlin, said the students’ presence “enriches our academic community and exemplifies the spirit of international solidarity and educational equity that Bard College Berlin stands for.”
