Letters from the Front Previewed in the Daily Catch
The Fisher Center’s new song cycle Letters from the Front was featured in the Daily Catch. A “tribute in song,” Letters from the Front will be performed on Veteran’s Day and is developed from letters written by soldiers to their families during wartime. The musical production features a libretto by Metropolitan Opera Director Mirabelle Ordinaire, who metered the original letters to be sung during the performance, and music by Composer Patrick Zimmerli. This will be the production’s fifth live performance since its premiere in August at the Brown County Playhouse in Nashville, Indiana.
Describing the letters, Zimmerli told the Daily Catch, “the communication is direct, and I tried to do the same with the music and serve the emotions of the letters.” Executive Producer Ian Gindes, a pianist who has served in the Illinois National Guard, says the cycle came out of a desire to honor but also humanize the soldiers who wrote these letters. “We wanted to highlight that these brave men and women are people, just like anybody else.”
Letters From the Front will be performed at Bard’s Fisher Center on November 11 at 7pm. Tickets are available online. Veterans and their families may reserve tickets free of charge.
