Master of Arts in Teaching Program Offers Information Sessions for Prospective Students
MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING PROGRAM AT BARD COLLEGE OFFERS INFORMATION SESSIONS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS IN ANNANDALE AND NEW YORK CITY
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program at Bard College—offering an integrated program of advanced study in biology, history, literature, or mathematics and graduate study in education, in one- or two-year cycles—presents information sessions for prospective students in February.
The sessions will be held on Saturday, February 9, at 11:30 a.m. at Bard College’s Reem-Kayden Center for Science and Computation in Annandale-on-Hudson, and in New York City on Wednesday, February 13, at 5:30 p.m. at Bard Hall, located at 410 West 58th Street. Faculty, program administrators, and alumni/ae of the MAT Program will be available for discussion and to answer questions about admission.
“The MAT Program was designed to respond to an urgent need for change in public education, a change that state mandates in the form of high-stake standardized tests will never be able to accomplish,” says Ric Campbell, director of the program. “We seek a transformation of classroom learning by helping our MAT students become teachers who can help high school and middle school students develop the thoughtful self-determination that results from a genuine enthusiasm for learning.”
The program—which leads to the MAT degree and New York State certification to teach in grades 7–12—offers courses and field experience on two campuses, either at Bard’s Annandale-on-Hudson campus or on site at one of the MAT partner schools in New York City. Scholarships and fellowships are available for study in the MAT Program.
Full-tuition grants are available to qualified students through a selection process that considers academic competence, teaching and leadership potential, financial need, and a commitment to working as an educator in the New York City public schools.
