Bard College Basketball Player Latiqua Williams Achieves Historic “Quadruple-Double”

Bard College Basketball Player Latiqua Williams Achieves Historic “Quadruple-Double”

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard Raptor Latiqua Williams, a sophomore from Bay Shore, New York, pulled off one of basketball’s rarest feats during Bard’s 75–28 defeat of the College of New Rochelle in the Division III Consolation Game of the Bard College Tip-Off Tournament in November.  Williams, a 5-foot-10-inch forward, achieved a “quadruple-double,” registering double digits in four major statistical categories with 21 points, 13 rebounds, 11 steals, and 10 assists. This historic achievement puts her in rare company. Williams is the ninth NCAA player, male or female, in any division to have accomplished a “quadruple-double” since the organization started keeping full statistical logs. Only four NBA players have done it.

“It feels great,” says Williams. “There’s going to be a moment when it hits me, but it hasn’t happened yet.” As to all the media attention, which included a story in the New York Times, the New York Post, and a mention in Sports Illustrated, “It’s mind-boggling, but I know that it will all be gone by next week, so I have to maintain my focus on my studies—I have a five-page paper due tomorrow.” Williams, who was recruited by head women’s basketball coach Jennifer Watson, is a history major. She plans to pursue a career in education or law after graduation.
