Bard Dance Presents a Talk with Tony Award–Winning Choreographer Bill T. Jones on November 30

Bard Dance Presents a Talk with Tony Award–Winning Choreographer Bill T. Jones on November 30

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Bard College Dance Program in partnership with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company present “The Strange Dance: Thoughts on Making, Doing, and Meaning,” a lecture and discussion by Bill T. Jones on Monday, November 30, at 8:00 p.m. in the Sosnoff Theater of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. Dubbed “the political lion of modern dance” by the New York Times, Tony Award–winning choreographer Bill T. Jones will discuss performance as a lens for topical investigation, the cultural role of an artist, and the ways in which his work strives to poeticize activism. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are required.

“Bill is one of the most intellectually engaging and articulate voices in modern dance. We are so pleased to provide Bard and the surrounding communities with an opportunity to participate in what will surely be a thought-provoking discussion,” says Maria Simpson, professor of dance and director of the dance program at Bard.

Beginning in fall 2009, the dance program at Bard College has partnered with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company to offer new classes in dance technique and choreographic methods, as well as special campuswide forums and workshops, such as this event. Courses are taught by current and former members of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company under the direction of Leah Cox, the company’s education director. This innovative partnership offers Bard students the unique opportunity to work closely with a world-renowned professional company during their undergraduate course of study.

Mr. Jones’s presentation is part of a day of dance events on campus that includes students in Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company courses showing their course work around campus throughout the day, and an open workshop for Bard students with no dance experience to try contemporary movement concepts.
