The Bard Conservatory Orchestra Performs at Daniel Arts Center, October 18

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The Bard Conservatory of Music presents the Conservatory Orchestra performing in concert at the McConnell Theater, Daniel Arts Center, on the Simon’s Rock campus in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The performance is on Monday, October 18, at 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public and no reservations are necessary.

Conducted by Leon Botstein, music director, the orchestra will perform Richard Strauss’s Don Juan, Arnold Schoenberg’s Five Pieces for Orchestra, and Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.” The concert will be performed by the students of The Bard College Conservatory of Music, with faculty and special guests. For more information, call 413-644-4400.

The Bard College Conservatory of Music is an innovative, five-year, double-degree program guided by the principle that musicians should be broadly educated in the liberal arts and sciences to achieve their greatest potential. While training and studying for the bachelor of music degree with world-class musicians and teachers and performing in state-of-the-art facilities, such as the Frank Gehry–designed Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, Bard Conservatory students also pursue a bachelor of arts degree at Bard, one of the nation’s leading liberal arts colleges. In addition, the Conservatory offers graduate programs in Vocal Arts, led by renowned soprano Dawn Upshaw, and in Conducting, led by Harold Farberman, as well as the Post-Graduate Collaborative Piano Fellowship, directed by Frank Corliss. For more information call 845-758-7196, or e-mail [email protected].

Bard College at Simon’s Rock: The Early College is a small, selective, supportive, intensive college of the liberal arts and sciences in the middle of the Berkshires, one of the nation’s cultural and natural treasures. All 400 students are enrolled after 10th or 11th grade in high school. Simon’s Rock provides a broad-minded, paradigm-shifting education; faculty trained in the country’s best universities; inspired and inspiring classes; first-class facilities for the sciences, the arts, and athletics; and an astonishing range of opportunities for conducting specialized research and gaining hands-on experience. The school offers 43 concentrations, many of them interdisciplinary; and the academic program leads to an A.A. or a B.A. degree. Simon’s Rock was founded by Elizabeth Blodgett Hall in 1966. In 1979 it became part of Bard College (established in 1860), one of the country’s outstanding liberal arts colleges, located 50 miles away, in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
