Bard College Presents the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra on November 12
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard College presents The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra performing works by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, in a program entitled “And There Was Light!” on Friday, November 12, at 8 p.m. The concert will be performed in Olin Hall. The program will be repeated on Saturday, November 13, at 8 p.m. at Pointe of Praise Family Life Center, 243 Hurley Avenue, Kingston, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 14, at Bearsville Theater in Woodstock. “And There Was Light!” The words provoked a sensation at the premiere of Joseph Haydn’s oratorio “The Creation,” and public acclaim only increased as the massive work unfolded. The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Artistic Director David Leighton, will present the Kingston High School Choir in a suite of highlights from this masterpiece as part of a concert that also includes two other important works from the classical period, Beethoven’s Overture to “The Creatures of Prometheus” and Mozart’s Symphony No. 35, the “Haffner.”
About the Performers:
Celebrating its 70th anniversary this season, the Kingston High School Choir, directed by Lawrence D. Lohman, Director, appears regularly with the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, and has earned critical praise for the professional level of performance it maintains. Every member of this select ensemble of 76 students has studied voice for a minimum of two years. The Choir travels extensively and has performed at Carnegie Hall, and in California, Ohio, Florida, and Canada.
The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, formed in 1980 by musicians from the Woodstock area, now comprises professional musicians from the entire Hudson Valley. The WCO regularly commissions music by local and regional composers and each season performs in Woodstock, Kingston, Saugerties, and at Bard College.
