"Notes To Haiti" Benefit Concert To Be Held at Bard College on April 23

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard College will host A Night of Uplifting Music: Hudson Valley “Notes to Haiti” Fundraiser on Saturday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in the Sosnoff Theater of the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. It has been more than a year since a devastating earthquake hit Haiti and lives are still being rebuilt. “Notes to Haiti” will be an uplifting night of music, talk, and dance featuring an impressive lineup of entertainers to raise money for the people of Haiti. Tickets are $25, $15, or $5 for students. To purchase tickets, please call the box office at (845) 758-7900 or go to www.fishercenter.bard.edu.

The evening’s program of joyful entertainment will include a song written especially for the people of Haiti by Bard student and event organizer Sasha Beecher, to be performed by local schoolchildren. Other performers include: soul singer/songwriter Melvin McKnight, aka Blaqmel; Joe Tobin of The Acoustic Medicine Show (folk/blues fusion); spoken-word performer and winner of Best Album 2010 National Poetry Awards Tai Allen; the Latin-drumming ensemble Los Hijos De Canto; MPOWER Elite Dance Company; film and video artist Adriana Varella; filmmaker/producer Anthony Calypso; and Notes to Haiti Children’s Choir. All proceeds will be donated to the Haitian People’s Support Project and to the Happy Hearts Fund.

Established by supermodel Petra Nemcova, Happy Hearts Fund helps children affected by natural disasters. They are currently building a school in Haiti. For more information visit www.happyheartsfund.org. Haitians Pierre and Terry Leroy founded The Haitian People’s Support Project 20 years ago in Woodstock, New York. Please visit their website at www.HaitianSupportProject.org.

For more information about “Notes to Haiti” benefit concert, please contact event organizer Sasha Beecher at (845) 532-4862 or [email protected].
