The Fisher Center Presents Dawn Upshaw and Friends in Concert, Sunday May 15

Matinee Benefit Concert in the Sosnoff Theater

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—On Sunday, May 15 at 3 p.m. in the Sosnoff Theater, internationally renowned soprano Dawn Upshaw will perform in concert with pianist Kayo Iwama, singers of The Bard College Conservatory of Music Graduate Vocal Arts Program, and the Collaborative Piano Fellows. The program will include a wide range of classical works and folk song arrangements featuring solos, duets, and vocal ensembles. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Scholarship Fund of The Bard College Conservatory of Music. Tickets are $15, 25, 50 and $75*. Vocalists from the Graduate Vocal Arts Program include Dusica Bijelic, Julia Bullock, Faylotte Crayton, Lucy Dhegrae, Hannah Goldschlack, Ariadne Greif ’10, Vanessa Langer, Heejung Lee, Clarissa Lyons, Ilana Zarankin, sopranos; Katarzyna Sadej ’10, mezzo-soprano; Jeffrey Hill, tenor; and Jeongcheol Cha and Leroy Davis, bass-baritones. The Collaborative Piano Fellows are Ming Aldrich-Gan, Zsolt Balog, Christina Lalog, and Liang-Yu Wang.

The program includes music by Robert Schumann, Karol Szymanowski, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Béla Bartók, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc, Kurt Weill, Ricky Ian Gordon, Lee Hoiby, William Bolcom, Aaron Copland, and Joni Mitchell.

A four-time Grammy Award winner, Dawn Upshaw is featured on more than 50 recordings, including the million-selling Symphony No. 3 by Henryk Gorecki. Her discography also includes full-length opera recordings of Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro; Messiaen’s St. Francois d’Assise; Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress; John Adams’s El Niño; two volumes of Canteloube’s “Songs of the Auvergne”; and a dozen recital recordings. Upshaw holds honorary doctorate degrees from Yale, the Manhattan School of Music, Allegheny College, and Illinois Wesleyan University. She is Artistic Director of the Vocal Arts Program at the Bard College Conservatory of Music, and a faculty member of the Tanglewood Music Center.

The mission of The Bard College Conservatory of Music is to provide the best possible preparation for a person dedicated to a life immersed in the creation and performance of music. The Conservatory features a unique double-degree program in which all undergraduate conservatory students receive a bachelor of music and a bachelor of arts in another field. In addition, the Conservatory offers a graduate program in Vocal Arts, led by renowned soprano Dawn Upshaw; graduate programs in Orchestral and Choral Conducting, codirected by James Bagwell, Leon Botstein, and Harold Farberman; a postgraduate Collaborative Piano Fellowship, directed by Frank Corliss; and a Preparatory Division for students ages 6–18, directed by Fu-chen Chan.
