Evensong at Bard Chapel of the Holy Innocents on Thursday, November 17
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.— An Evensong service will be presented at Bard College’s Chapel of the Holy Innocents on Thursday, November 17, at 5:30 p.m. The service is from the Prayer Book of 1662, and is for the meeting of the Association of Episcopal Colleges. For more information send an e-mail to [email protected].
Officiants for the service are the Reverend Dr. Bruce Chilton and the Reverend Virginia Grab; with Tatjana von Prittwitz, President Leon Botstein, and Dean Michèle Dominy, lectors; Dr. James Bagwell, choral director; The Bard College Chamber Singers; Frederick Hammond, organist; and Theresa Desmond and Roisin Taylor, sacristans.
The Evensong service is traditionally in Latin with choral music serving as a major component. The Prayer Book of 1662 is the form of service still authorized in England, and represents the scholarship of Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury, when the liturgies were translated into English. This combination of beautiful choral music and deeply moving texts should prove to be a glorious event for the college community.
