Celebrated Author Tom McCarthy to Give Reading at Bard College on Monday, February 27

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — On Monday, February 27, at Bard College, novelist and conceptual artist Tom McCarthy will read from his highly praised debut novel, Remainder, which was a Los Angeles Times bestseller and was called “one of the great English novels of the last 10 years” by Zadie Smith in the New York Review of Books. McCarthy will be introduced by novelist and Bard literature professor Bradford Morrow. The reading, presented by Morrow’s Innovative Contemporary Fiction Reading Series, takes place at 2:30 p.m. in Weis Cinema in the Bertelsmann Campus Center. It is free and open to the public; no reservations are required.

Tom McCarthy was born in 1969 and lives in London. He is known for the reports, manifestos, and media interventions he has made as general secretary of the International Necronautical Society (INS), a semifictitious avant-garde network. In addition to Remainder, he is the author of Tintin and the Secret of Literature, a book of literary criticism, and the novels Men in Space and C, the latter of which was nominated for the 2010 Man Booker Prize and praised by the New York Times as a “tour de force.” His latest novel, Satin Island, will be released in spring 2012 by the Knopf Publishing Group.
