The Bard Center Presents the Third Concert of the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra Music Director Search Season

The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra announces the third of four concert series in its 33rd season, featuring conductor Nathan Madsen, Assistant Conductor of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra in Lubbock, TX, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Southwest Symphony Orchestra in St. George, Utah.  The program includes Mozart’s Symphony No. 31 in D Major (the “Paris”); the Schumann Cello Concerto, featuring WCO principal cellist Ling Kwan; Beethoven’s overture to “The Creatures of Prometheus”; Leopold Stokowski’s orchestral arrangement of the aria “Sheep May Safely Graze” from Bach’s Cantata No. 208; and Canadian composer Pierre Jalbert’s “Les espaces infinis.”  The performance takes place at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 2 in Olin Hall. (The program will be repeated at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4, at the recently renovated Woodstock Playhouse, Route 212 at the intersection with Route 375, in Woodstock.) Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $5.00 for students. Subscription sets are available (four tickets good for any concert). For more information call (845) 758-9270.

In the final concert series of the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra’s season, conductor Teresa Cheung will lead the orchestra in George Frideric Handel’s Concerto for Oboe No. 3, featuring WCO principal oboe Alison Bitz, along with Mozart’s “Linz” Symphony, No. 36 in C Major, on April 20 and 22.

The Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, formed in 1980 by musicians from the Woodstock area, now is comprised of professional musicians from the entire Hudson Valley, regularly performs music by local and regional composers, and performs in Woodstock and at Bard College.

Please call (845) 679-6431 or visit the website (www.wco-online.com) for information and updates.
