Bard College Announces The Marshall & Sterling Scholarship for Undergraduate Economics Majors

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—Bard College announces a new scholarship for students wishing to study economics. Marshall & Sterling Insurance has given $20,000 to the College in order to fund the first year of the Marshall & Sterling Scholarship for Undergraduate Economics Majors. This scholarship supports Bard’s ongoing commitment to a need-blind admissions policy.

“Scholarship grants from Marshall & Sterling Insurance make it possible for us to maintain this policy, and for that we are extremely grateful,” stated Dimitri B. Papadimitriou, Bard’s executive vice president and president of the Levy Economics Institute. “Scholarships are an essential tool in recruiting and retaining excellent students as well as reducing the financial burden of higher education. We thank Marshall & Sterling for the commitment they have made to this scholarship. Their generosity will make a profound difference in the lives of the students who receive their support.”

Bard’s financial aid policy is based on the premise that the College will accept all students who qualify for admission regardless of the amount of financial aid that they require. Many private colleges have discarded their need-blind admissions policies in recent years due to the steady increases in the scholarship funds such policies necessitate. Bard College remains firmly committed to a generous financial aid policy that encourages applications from outstanding students who would otherwise not be able to afford a private liberal arts education. Every student who is accepted by Bard and demonstrates financial need receives scholarship support.

ABOUT BARD COLLEGE
