Bard Photography Professor Larry Fink Wins 2015 Infinity Award For Art

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.—The International Center of Photography (ICP) has announced the honorees of the 2015 Infinity Awards. Larry Fink, Bard College professor of photography, won the award for art. Awards will be presented at a gala on Thursday, April 30, at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers, in New York City.

“We are thrilled to announce the recipients of the 2015 Infinity Awards,” said Executive Director Mark Lubell. “We look forward to honoring this incredible group of artists who demonstrate the range of image-making today. Using tools as diverse as drones, transmedia installations, and a Rolleiflex—they show us the power of the image to offer new perspectives, inspire discussion, and communicate ideas.”

Larry Fink has been a professional photographer for more than 55 years. His one-man shows have appeared at New York’s Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of Modern Art; Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland; and Musée de la Photographie in Charleroi, Belgium. Fink has been awarded two John Simon Guggenheim Fellowships, two National Endowment for the Arts grants, and two Individual Photography Fellowships. He has been teaching for more than 52 years, with professorial positions at Yale University, Bard College, and Cooper Union, among others.

Other Infinity Award recipients include: Graciela Iturbide, Cornell Capa Lifetime Achievement; Question Bridge: Black Males (Chris Johnson, Hank Willis Thomas, Bayeté Ross Smith, Kamal Sinclair, and Jesse Williams), New Media; Tomas van Houtryve, Photojournalism; LaToya Ruby Frazier, The Notion of Family, Publication; Mario Testino, Special Presentation; The Lean In Collection by Getty Images & LeanIn.Org, Trustee; and Evgenia Arbugaeva, Young Photographer.

The Infinity Awards are widely respected as the leading honor for excellence in photography. The awards are also ICP’s largest annual fundraiser and support all of ICP’s programs, including exhibitions, education (such as the ICP–Bard MFA Program), collections, and community outreach. Since 1985, the annual ICP Infinity Awards have recognized major contributions and emerging talent in the field. Past winners include Berenice Abbott, Richard Avedon, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, David Guttenfelder, André Kertész, Karl Lagerfeld, Annie Leibovitz, Helen Levitt, Mary Ellen Mark, Susan Meiselas, Daidō Moriyama, James Nachtwey, Gordon Parks, Jürgen Schadeberg, Malick Sidibé, and Ai Weiwei.

More than 500 prominent individuals from the art, business, entertainment, fashion, philanthropy, and photography worlds attend the event each year to celebrate photography, creative expression, and artistic achievement.
