Mid-Hudson Heritage Center to Celebrate Bard College's Renowned Lierary Magazine Conjunctions with Reading on April 18

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – On Saturday, April 18, 2015, at 2 p.m., the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center at 317 Main Street will celebrate Bard College’s innovative literary journal Conjunctions with a special reading. Greg Hrbek (Destroy All Monsters), Michael Ives (The External Combustion Machine), Paul La Farge (Luminous Airplanes), and Christina Mengert (As We Are Sung) will read from their work published in the biannual print journal and in the weekly online magazine of web-exclusive writing. Conjunctions publishes innovative writing for adventurous readers. An internationally distributed magazine of provocative, risk-taking fiction, poetry, and narrative nonfiction, it is published by Bard College and edited by novelist, Bard Center Fellow, and Professor of Literature Bradford Morrow. Work from Conjunctions can frequently be found in the Best American Fiction and Pushcart Prize anthologies and in Harper’s. The journal features contemporary masters such as Joyce Carol Oates, Edwidge Danticat, Russell Banks, John Ashbery, Karen Russell, and Jonathan Lethem, as well as astonishing new voices like Chinelo Okparanta, Bennett Sims, Julia Elliott, Stephen O’Connor, and H.G. Carrillo.

A community space and nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the area through arts and cultural events, the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center hosts art exhibitions, author readings, lectures, and workshops at the gallery space on 317 Main Street. The Conjunctions reading is part of Arts Mid-Hudson’s Queen City Arts Weekend series; copies of the magazine will be made available for sale and signing by the Three Arts bookstore.
